Demes inaugurate new depot and washing plant

Pleased about the successful investment at business location Stadtlohn. (f.l.to.r.): Thomas Ulitzsch (Managing Director Gütegemeinschaft Paletten), Marie-Theres Böing (Vice Mayor of Stadtlohn) und Ulrich H. Holtkamp (Managing Director Demes Logistics).

The logistic business has meanwhile become Germany’s third largest industrial sector with 2.6 million employees and an annual turnover of more than 180 billion Euros. Two developments have in particular revolutionised the market: that of the container and that of the pallet. Demes Logistics GmbH & Co. KG, which was founded 28 years ago at its location in Westmünsterland Germany, has also profited from the latter. And that exceptionally well.

Managing director Ulrich H. Holtkamp expressed at the inauguration of the new pallet depot and washing plant that to retain this trend in the future and to enable the focus on new target groups such as branded companies and chain stores, an investment of €1.7m for a new pallet depot and a new washing plant was installed at the site in Stadtlohn.

The depot disposes of around 4,000m² storage area and a storage hall of 2,100m² where a total of 23,000 pallets can be stored under cover. Another 57,000 pallets can be stored at the open-air lot raising the complete storage capacity to 80,000 pallets. As Holtkamp said at the inauguration to many national and international visitors and business partners, in the Repair Shop total of 10,000 pallets can be sorted and another 800 can be repaired per work shift. The overall annual capacity adds to a total of around 2.6 million inspections and 200,000 repairs.

The new washing plant has a capacity per shift of 10,000 plastic pads for the glass industry giving an annual equivalent of 15 million. The cleansing efficiency reaches highest requirements according to HACCP and ISO 22.000.

Thomas Ulitzsch “Pallet Pope” and GPAL-Managing Director (GPAL = Community of Goods Pallets) expressed to numerous national and international guests and business partners praising words towards the demonstrated initiative shown from Demes as co-founder member of the Gütegemeinschaft Paletten e. V. (GPAL).

The vice mayor of Stadtlohn Marie-Theres Böing congratulated the attendant founder brothers Gerhard, Johannes and Josef Demes: “Through the affiliation of Demes to the British packaging company DS Smith plc in 1999 a trend setting and future orientated combination of know-how, service and support and capital has been achieved. Not only have more jobs been created but also the image of the region as a business location has been substantially improved”.
