A packaging pool is a group of standard transit packaging items, e.g. pallets, which is utilised by a network of customers in
various markets, for the storage and transportation of their products.
The fundamental reason for using pooled packaging equipment is that a larger pool is more economic to operate
than a number of smaller individual pools, as peaks in demand can be met by the transfer of equipment between
different industries.
Demes enable effective pooling through: tracking all equipment as it moves through the supply chain,
maximising vehicle utilisation and product flows, servicing and cleaning equipment between trips to ensure that the
highest quality packaging is supplied to every customer, and intelligent sourcing of multi-trip equipment through
the DS Smith Group.
